About the Vinyl 45

Mello Music Group is excited to share this rare soul funk re-issue from our desert compadres at Desert Island Records. Here's the full story of this gorgeous 45:

"Desert Island Records is super excited to announce the reissue of a rare 45 from the New Mexico and Arizona region. This soul funk jam is a must for any DJ set! Originally found in a box of 45s that came in the store. All of the other records were pretty popular classic rock titles but this one stood out with the simple label and title Magic. After playing I was immediately intrigued but didn’t know if anyone else would think the same. I tried to find any info about the band or anyone else mentioning the record or a sales history and found none. I added it up to Discogs.com and it took a couple years to come up for sale and sold instantly and has continued to do so. After that I knew this was something that needed to be put back in the ether. The reissue was remastered for vinyl and on limited color vinyl.

I finally was able to find some pictures on Facebook of the bands shows and got in contact with Hardy Phelps one of the founding members along with Michael Greene, Bob Kuipers, Dean Greene, Randy Caudill and David Greece. Hardy and Mike still play live shows to this day. Hardy has been a big help through the project and was able to give me great detail of the bands history. The band was originally from the Navajo Reservation in Window Rock and St. Michaels AZ. After a stint in the Marines the band started up in Gallup NM. Black Sage went on to open for War, Blackfoot, King Kobra, Danger Zone. Tora Tora, Autograph, Great White, Leatherwolf and Buffy Sainte-Marie. The 1982 original was cut at the famous John Wagner Studio in Albuquerque. Engineered by John Standish who also contributed to the amazing keyboard music on the song. The band considered themselves more hard rock but put it up to family members to vote what song they should put out and Magic and Won’t You Help me took the vote."

When will my order ship?

Our team is working hard to get all orders shipping as quickly as possible and we expect all orders to ship within 5-10 business days after order. You will receive a tracking number in your e-mail when it ships. We apologize for any delays and appreciate your patience & support. Note, we are a small business and we do not have a large staff - it takes us a little bit to process orders depending on what else is going on with releases, music creation, and business.

What about pre-orders?

We fully anticipate pre-orders to ship on or before the date posted on the product page. Please make sure you check the release date before purchasing to avoid any miscommunication. If you are ordering multiple items, all items will ship together on the latest release date, when all products are available. If you’d like to receive items as they become available, please order the items separately.

Canada, EU & UK Orders:

Any VAT Taxes imposed by your country are your responsibility to pay upon receipt. Each country has it's own import rules so please be familiar with your country's rules prior to ordering. We can not cancel orders due to unexpected tarifs - sadly the political domain is out of our control. If tarifs are imposed after an order is placed we are not able to cancel the order. Sadly, many international orders that are not picked up - due to tariffs - are destroyed and we are unable to refund them. For clarity: There are no refunds on returned orders not accepted by the customer because of tariffs.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns or exchanges on non-damaged music or clothing items at this time.

Damaged Items

If you receive a damaged item, please send an e-mail to info@mellomusicgroup.com with a photo or video of the damage to help us understand the problem and address any potential issues with future orders. If the product is still in stock, we will replace the damaged item. If it is sold out, we will work with you to either return your money or send you a comparable item.

We can not refund or exchange orders because of split vinyl sides. We have strict quality control both coming into and out of our warehouse and we use the most secure packaging available to get LPs to you safely and in the highest quality. Unfortunately, split vinyl sides can happen if shipping companies aren't careful with your product and that risk should be considered before purchasing.

Unclaimed Packages

Lost packages are usually the result of entering an address incorrectly, moving before the item arrives, etc. When this happens, we will reach out and e-mail you to verify your address and resend your package. If we don’t hear back after 14 days, we will refund your order.
